Roel Tan-Torres' Giraffe 2.22.07

Grinder at #7, 4 minutes on the press pot, no suger... I got a glancing whiff of something fruity but mostly earthy scents. Slurped, it was thin, acidic bitter... kinda disappointing.

With the usual 2/4 teaspoon of sugar, I smelled perfume! Body was still on the thin side. I gotta wonder... is it because of the sugar I use? Probably not, since we use different brand and grades every few weeks or so and this batch was different from a couple of weeks ago.

It's getting malty now that it's cooled a little with still a whiff of perfume...

Ah... good coffee... nice coffee...

The Peaberry Cafe Project

Ignored blogging last week, I was too busy feeling sorr for myself for not getting that lease. I went out more often, just driving around, taking long ways to someplace looking for a place.

And I found not one but two places. Both have issues with parking and lack of desirable traffic but are closer to work and... CHEAPER!

We made a decision as to which site was the least problematic and, hopefully, come Monday , 2.19.07, and after a wee clarification on some issues that's been bugging me, we can close the lease.

The Peaberry Cafe Project

Yesterday I had to digest some bad news... we didn't get the lease. We were 'offered' a less desirable location though I was informed before that it was already taken. Apparently I was mis-informed, it is still available though smaller and I told them to go ahead and consider our application for that space.

BUT... I doubt will get that space either. They may have a problem with our 'less-is-more' concept of an Espresso Bar (and Roastery). Only Espresso based drinks and no frau-frau powder based drinks masquerading as 'coffee' drink.

The search is on... again.

The Peaberry Cafe Project

Thumbs-a-twirling as we wait for the approval of our lease application, that's the good news.

Bad news is just found out there are two other Peaberrys in the country. But we'll try and see if we can get the full title approved as business name.

Press Pot 2.01.2007

This is about the end for Roel Tan-Torres' Sid Vicious 1.21.2007. It smells nutty, this is the scent that I thought was earthy couple of days ago, but nutty is probably closer in description. Pressed from grinds with the grinder set at 1-click before #7 setting, it was light bodied, yea high in acidity, but not bitter. The acidity has an astringent after-taste, kinda like mint, feels cool in the mouth. Rather nice. Adding sugar added a wee bit body but not a lot but, unfortunately, wiped-out that astringent afters and left a dry-mouth feel instead.
