Coffee on Christmas

Christmas Eve dinner has come to pass...

And all I ate was a belly full...

Quite less than the two or more prior...

Right. So I bought home the grinder, the last 200g of Giraffe (roasted 12.17.06), press pot, the water boiler, stainless steel pot, sieve, brushes, and measuring spoon, so I can share the coffee after dinner. Trouble is no one wants one. Seems they were afraid to stay awake all night.

So I pressed one serving for me, poured it into a cup and realized there was about half-a-serving left. Duh! Seems a full belly dulls the mind, I usually use a mug and not a cup. Poured that out and gave it to my brother, who was, sipping beer.

Blah. I was hoping for that floral scent but got a musty fruitiness instead. Did another batch this time ground coarser by 2 clicks. Same. Blah.

This morning, I pressed and sipped to taste. Blah. Then my brother came in and asked for some. I left my cup and went to pressed him one, this time adjusting for a finer grind by 1-click, pressed, sniffed. Lo! Behold the perfumy scent! Yes! Yes! Yes! And my brother liked it, said it wasn't bitter like those from the coffee chains.

I returned to my cup grinning and was pleasantly surprised to get the same perfume where it was only fruity before. Niiiiice.
Now Mom comes in and asked for a cup. And my brother asked for another. And I got lazy... I decided to use the drip this time. I figured out how much water the drip's pot can hold and guesstimate how much coffee to use and another guesstimate on how coarse I should grind (8 on the Macap M4). The drip came out thin, kind of acidic, a bit bitter and disappointing.

Oh well... maybe I'll do better with the drip New Year's day.
